When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeeded them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses; Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.

19 When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
4 And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
8 And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

20 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,
3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
5 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.
6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.
7 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.
9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.
10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.
12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.
15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.
19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:
20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks

19 जब तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा उन जातियों को नाश करे, जिनकी भूमि वह तुझे देता है, और तू उनका उत्तराधिकारी होकर उनके नगरों और घरों में रहने लगे;

2 तब तू अपने उस देश के बीच में, जिसे तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे अधिकार में करने को देता है, अपने लिये तीन नगर अलग कर लेना।

3 तू अपने लिये मार्ग तैयार करना, और अपने देश के देश के देश को, जिसे तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे अधिकार में करने को देता है, तीन भागों में बाँट लेना, कि हर एक हत्यारा वहीं भाग जाए।

4 और जो हत्यारा वहां भाग जाए, उसकी दशा इस प्रकार होगी, कि वह जीवित रहे: जो कोई अपने पड़ोसी को, जिससे वह पहले कभी घृणा नहीं करता था, अज्ञानता में मार डाले;

5 जैसे कोई मनुष्य अपने पड़ोसी के साथ लकड़ी काटने के लिये जंगल में जाए, और उसका हाथ कुल्हाड़ी से पेड़ को काटने के लिये लगे, और कुल्हाड़ी कुल्हाड़ी से फिसलकर उसके पड़ोसी पर लगे, और वह मर जाए; वह उन नगरों में से किसी एक में भाग जाए, और जीवित रहे:
6 कहीं ऐसा न हो कि खून का बदला लेनेवाला, जब तक उसका हृदय गर्म हो, तब तक हत्यारे का पीछा करे, और उसे पकड़ ले, क्योंकि मार्ग लम्बा है, और उसे मार डाले; जबकि वह मृत्यु के योग्य नहीं था, क्योंकि वह उससे पहले कभी घृणा नहीं करता था।
7 इस कारण मैं तुझे आज्ञा देता हूं, कि तू अपने लिये तीन नगर अलग कर ले।
8 और यदि तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तेरे पूर्वजों से खाई हुई शपथ के अनुसार तेरा सिवाना बढ़ाए, और वह सारा देश तुझे दे, जिसे देने का वचन उसने तेरे पूर्वजों को दिया था;
9 यदि तू इन सब आज्ञाओं का पालन करते हुए, जो मैं आज तुझे सुनाता हूं, अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा से प्रेम रखना, और उसके मार्गों पर सदैव चलना; तो इन तीन के अतिरिक्त अपने लिये तीन और नगर बढ़ा देना:
10 कि तेरे देश में, जिसे तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे निज भाग करके देता है, निर्दोष का खून न बहाया जाए, और इस प्रकार खून तुझ पर न पड़े।

11 परन्तु यदि कोई अपने पड़ोसी से बैर रखे, और उसकी घात में रहे, और उसके विरुद्ध उठकर उसको ऐसा मारे कि वह मर जाए, और इन नगरों में से किसी में भाग जाए,

12 तो उसके नगर के पुरनिये उसे वहां से बुलाकर खून का बदला लेनेवाले के हाथ में सौंप दें, कि वह मर जाए।

13 उस पर तरस न खाना, परन्तु निर्दोष के खून का दोष इस्राएल से दूर करना, कि तेरा भला हो।

14 अपने पड़ोसी का वह चिन्ह न हटाना, जो उन्होंने पुराने समय से तेरे निज भाग में लगाया है, जिसे तू उस देश में पाएगा जिसे तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे अधिकार में लेने के लिए देता है।

15 किसी मनुष्य के किसी अधर्म या पाप के कारण, चाहे वह कोई पाप क्यों न करे, उसके विरुद्ध एक साक्षी न उठे; दो या तीन साक्षियों के मुंह से बात पक्की हो जाएगी। 16 यदि कोई झूठा साक्षी किसी के विरुद्ध गवाही देने के लिए खड़ा हो, जो गलत है;

17 तो वे दोनों व्यक्ति, जिनके बीच में वह वाद-विवाद हुआ हो, यहोवा के सम्मुख अर्थात् याजकों और न्यायियों के सम्मुख जो उन दिनों में होंगे खड़े हों;

18 और न्यायी भली-भाँति जाँच-पड़ताल करें; और देखो, यदि साक्षी झूठा हो, और अपने भाई के विरुद्ध झूठी गवाही दी हो;

19 तो तुम उसके साथ वैसा ही करना जैसा उसने अपने भाई के साथ करने का विचार किया था; इस प्रकार तुम अपने मध्य से ऐसी बुराई को दूर करना।

20 और जो बचे रहेंगे वे सुनकर डर जाएँगे, और आगे को तुम्हारे मध्य ऐसी कोई बुराई न करेंगे।

21 और तुम किसी पर दया न करना; परन्तु प्राण की सन्ती प्राण, आँख की सन्ती आँख, दाँत की सन्ती दाँत, हाथ की सन्ती हाथ, और पाँव की सन्ती पाँव लेना।

20 जब तू अपने शत्रुओं से युद्ध करने जाए, और घोड़े, रथ और अपने से अधिक सेना को देखे, तो उनसे मत डरना; क्योंकि तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा, जो तुझे मिस्र देश से निकाल लाया है, तेरे संग है।

2 और जब तुम युद्ध के निकट पहुंचो, तब याजक लोगों के पास जाकर उनसे कहे,

3 और उन से कहे, हे इस्राएलियों, सुनो, आज तुम अपने शत्रुओं से युद्ध करने के लिये आ रहे हो; तुम्हारा मन कच्चा न हो, न डरो, न कांपो, और न उनके कारण भयभीत हो;

4 क्योंकि तुम्हारा परमेश्वर यहोवा ही तुम्हारे शत्रुओं से तुम्हारे लिये लड़ने और तुम्हें बचाने के लिये तुम्हारे संग चलता है।

5 और सरदार लोगों से कहें, कि ऐसा कौन मनुष्य है जिसने नया घर बनाया हो, परन्तु उसका अभिषेक न किया हो? वह अपने घर को लौट जाए, ऐसा न हो कि वह युद्ध में मर जाए, और दूसरा मनुष्य उसका अभिषेक करे।

6 और ऐसा कौन मनुष्य है जिसने दाख की बारी लगाई हो, परन्तु अब तक उसमें से कुछ न खाया हो? वह भी अपने घर को लौट जाए, ऐसा न हो कि वह युद्ध में मर जाए, और दूसरा मनुष्य उसमें से कुछ खाए।

7 और ऐसा कौन मनुष्य है जिसने स्त्री से ब्याह रचाया हो, परन्तु उसे ब्याह न पाया हो? वह भी अपने घर को लौट जाए, ऐसा न हो कि वह युद्ध में मर जाए, और दूसरा मनुष्य उसे ब्याह ले।

8 और सरदार लोगों से और बातें करें, और वे पूछें, कि कौन मनुष्य है जो डरपोक और कायर है? वह भी अपने घर को लौट जाए, ऐसा न हो कि उसके भाइयों का हृदय भी उसके समान कायर हो जाए।

9 और जब सरदार लोगों से बातें कर चुकें, तब वे लोगों का नेतृत्व करने के लिए सेनापतियों को नियुक्त करें।

10 जब तुम किसी नगर के विरुद्ध युद्ध करने के लिए उसके निकट जाओ, तो उसके विरुद्ध शांति की घोषणा करो।

11 और यदि वह तुझ से मेलमिलाप करने को कहे और तेरे लिये द्वार खोल दे, तो उस नगर में जितने लोग हों, वे सब तेरे दास हो जाएं, और तेरी सेवा करें।

12 और यदि वह तेरे साथ मेलमिलाप न करे, परन्तु तेरे विरुद्ध युद्ध करे, तो तू उसको घेर लेना।

13 और जब तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा उसे तेरे हाथ में कर दे, तब उसके सब पुरूषों को तलवार से मार डालना।

14 परन्तु स्त्रियां, और बाल-बच्चे, और पशु, और नगर में जो कुछ हो, अर्थात् उसका सारा लूट का माल तू अपने पास ले लेना; और अपने शत्रुओं की लूट का माल, जो तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे दे, खा लेना।

15 जो नगर तुझ से बहुत दूर हैं, और जो इन जातियों के नगरों में से नहीं हैं, उनके साथ भी ऐसा ही करना।

16 परन्तु इन लोगों के नगरों में से, जिन्हें तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे निज भाग करके देता है, तू किसी प्राणी को जीवित न छोड़ना। 17 परन्तु तू उनको अर्थात् हित्तियों, एमोरियों, कनानी, परिज्जियों, हिव्वियों, और यबूसियों को पूरी रीति से नाश कर डालना; जैसा कि तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तुझे आज्ञा दी है।

18 कि वे तुझे अपने सब घिनौने काम न करना सिखाएं, जो उन्होंने अपने देवताओं के साथ किए हैं; तब तू अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा के विरुद्ध पाप न करना।

19 जब तुम किसी नगर को युद्ध में जीत लेने के लिए बहुत दिनों तक घेरे रहो, तो उसके वृक्षों को कुल्हाड़ी चलाकर नष्ट न करना, क्योंकि तुम उनसे फल खा सकते हो, और उन्हें काटकर नहीं खा सकते (क्योंकि मैदान के वृक्ष मनुष्य का प्राण हैं) ताकि उन्हें घेराबंदी में काम में लाया जा सके।

20 केवल उन वृक्षों को जिनके विषय में तुम जानते हो कि वे खाने योग्य नहीं हैं, नष्ट करके काट डालना; और उनके स्थान पर किले बनाना।

भगवान का साम्राज्य

परन्तु जब तुम प्रार्थना करो, तो अन्यजातियों की नाईं व्यर्थ न दोहराओ; क्योंकि वे समझते हैं, कि उनके अधिक बोलने से हमारी सुनी जाएगी।
इसलिये तुम उनके समान न बनो; क्योंकि तुम्हारा पिता तुम्हारे मांगने से पहिले ही जानता है, कि तुम्हें किस वस्तु की क्या आवश्यकता है।
इस रीति से तुम प्रार्थना करो:

मैथ्यू 6: 7 - 13

स्वर्ग में कला करनेवाले जो हमारे पिता,
पवित्र हो तेरा नाम।
तुम्हारा राज्य आओ।
तेरी इच्छा पृथ्वी पर पूरी हो

जैसे यह स्वर्ग में है,
हमें इस दिन हमारी रोज़ की रोटी दें।
और हमारे अपराधों और पापों को क्षमा कर;
जैसा कि हम उन सभी के लिए प्रार्थना करते हैं जो अतिक्रमण करते हैं

या हमारे विरुद्ध पाप करो।
और हमें प्रलोभन में न ले जाओ,

परन्तु हमें सब विपत्तियों से बचा
क्योंकि राज्य तेरा है
सारी शक्ति और सारी महिमा
